And the journey continues

Since the previous century travelling has become much more easier. Within a couple of hours we can now travel to the other side of the world. Furthermore, it seems that travelling to space will also be an otpion in the next few years. So, for us poor souls who just want to travel, explore and wander, this is the best time to be alive.

Unfortunately, the pandemic in 2020 made us stop all our adventures. We got stuck at home or in other cases, somewhere in an unknown place with strangers. We had to endure and wait until we could travel again. Thankfully, nowdays it is again easier to travel and move thanks to the ease of the restrictions and vaccinations.

Although I call myself a traveller, in reality I am not. I love travelling, meeting new people, getting to know and understand other cultures and lifestyles but at the same time I want to have a base, a place to call home. So, since I do like travelling, I decided to basically live abroad.

When COVID-19 started spreading across the world I was living in the UK. I spend more than a year and a half there waiting for restrictions to ease up. Unfortunately, I got exhausted from the whole situation so I left the UK and went back home to Cyprus. After more than 8 years, I actually spend 8 months consiquently at home. I loved my time there. I loved being home with my family, my friends and doing some exploring around Cyprus. But I guess my soul was not ready to settle at home.

So, once again I left and I have now moved to Barcelona in Spain. I’ve been here for 2 months now and to be honest I feel like I’ve been here for ages. Surely, it is very different from any other city I’ve been to but at the same time it is so similar to every other place I travelled and lived.

No matter in which country of the world you are, people are always the same. How you ask? Well everyone has expectations, everyone wants to live comfortably, and everyone desires to love and be loved in one way or another.

Cities around the world may differ in infrastructure, architecture, the traffic system, the social structure etc. but still cities are all about giving shelter, food, or education, but mainly they are all about giving the people a choice.

Barcelona gave me the choice of travelling and working at the same time without struggling over bureaucracy. It gave me the choice to be free and do what I love.

I hope that we will continue to have a choice and live comfortably and freely. I wish we will have more stories of yesterday, today and tomorrow to tell to the our friends, family, strangers and the next generation.

  2. These are great observations you’ve made here. I’m so far away from Barcelona so it’s so cool to read about your experiences there. And yes, in the end, we’ve been blessed by having a choice. Wishing you all the best with your 2022!
